Do you struggle with completing (or- let’s be real- even starting) your creative projects?
Especially with the influence of Instagram now, I find that when I go to draw, dance, or pick up a flow prop I feel inadept because I have been exposed to so many skillfully trained professionals. I feel like I need to be able to master my skill in order to enjoy it. Half the time, I give up before I even try.
I have been reconnecting with the magic of innocence and play in my artistic endeavours.
When a kid draws or dances, they don’t need it to be a perfect replica of their vision! They just freely attempt to express or communicate the essence of what touches them.
Rather than looking at reference photos and frustrating myself in an attempt to re-create some masterful henna design, I just started with a line.
And then another.
Some spirals drew themselves, and before I knew it, this unfolded!
No, it’s not jaw-droppingly beautiful but so what? I had fun.
My challenge for you today is to spend even just one minute playing.
Groove to a song that moves you.
Trace shapes into the sand with your toes.
Hum a melody you’ve never heard before.
Arrange fallen leaves into a pattern.
Take a step back and allow innocence to interact with the wondrous world around🌼
If you feel inspired to share the products of your play, you can dm me photos or videos, or post them in your story and tag me so I can see them!
